i think you'll find that robots and mechas from other franchises, are ALL based on Astro Boy, considering Osamu Tesuka started
the Mighty Atom ( Astro Boy ) manga in 1952.

Wow, the final few pages detailing the mangaka's design intentions for A106 are fascinating. What an incredible amount of effort into the subliminal details of his figure.

Wow, that bit about aesthetic theory is really interesting, I can totally see the intention of the author. A106 does seem a little "gloomy" sometimes but the effect of the lines makes him look "cute" too.
