I'm happy she grew from her mother. I hate to digress, but lot of manga I see explore neglectful or absentee parents as the child always searching for the parent's love and seeking for closure. They're always forgiving.
I rarely see stuff like this like repressed hatred or growing while not totally forgiving their parents. That is to say, I really enjoyed reading this story to it's end. While the old lady didn't try to make amends, that's life, and at the least the child and grandchild is better off for it.
