Her dialogues are pretty realistic, you know. That's how people who are abused thinks. They trust almost nobody. They have extreme trust issues because of their trauma from the past events. I had a classmate of mine who had the same kind of problem, throughout our high school life nobody was able to be friends with him because he thought they wanted to be friends with him because they felt sympathetic towards him. In the end, we graduated and nobody is aware where he is now, though I hope wherever he is, he is living a good life.

Honestly though, she is kinda right - she states the guy obviously has motives and keeps away, and when she finally caves in and agrees to let him buy her lunch, he immediately starts flirting with her. I get this is supposed to be a romance (probably), but he is coming off like a sleaze rather than as someone who is actually concerned.

Would he have given a shit if he didn't think she was cute?

It's the good old nice guy trope, where the guy is being nice because he expects something in return and have ulterior motives, then gets mad because being nice didn't make him privileged to having sex with her. Good old incel thought pattern.
Trust issues/mommy issues usually develops early in life when you don't have a solid mother figure.

Well... the girl is reacting in a realistic manner so that's a plus.

The invisible MC saying she's cute is a moron. Even if you don't have ulterior motives, you do not approach an abused, bruised and bandaged girl telling her she's cute. What is she going to think? You're a stranger...

This creep POV protag probably thinks that she is easy pickings.

Dude must be a fan of that asshole Maroon 5 and his song of "Look for the girl with the broken smile and she will be loved"
