It's pretty much a summary. Whatt Mei did for him was help him cheat his way to 1000. From there, it's not like we saw what they did in that time-skip from 1000 to 4000. Points is one thing, but he'd still need the confidence and judgement to finally go into melee fights like that last one he killed, and that only comes with actual experience. Pretty sure it wasn't completely light training, it's just the presentation of the mangaka.

Idk, they probably don't like people stealing exp, or carrying low levels.

Personally I thought it was taboo for other parties to get an hit in,(which would make sense) but I must have miss read.

Waiting this long to give the backstory to how he got OP may have been a "marketing" decision on the mangaka's point.

If you front load the exposition in a new series readers might lose interest before getting to the exciting bits and lead to an early ax. In that case, start off with the "hook" to build engagement and once you have a more reliable readership you can slow down and fill in the narrative gap.

I think I'm pulling that from reading Bakuman a long time ago so I could just be going senile. 🤷‍♂️
