ok so i just binged this tonight. around the middle this story was making me mad because it felt like the MC conveniently left her phone and let Mari see the msgs from the disabled girl who Mari then got pushed down a hill and hospitalised. She literally told MC not to show Mari the msgs and she left her phone next to Mari like a dumbass and then seemed to forget about the meetup. Felt too much like a convenient way to push the plot.
Also the fact that Mari seemed to be manipulative and sadistic at one moment then vulnerable the next kept throwing me off. Still don’t know why she was bruised all over, maybe its a cult thing. Also did Mari try to get her drowned on the school trip or was that an accident? She seems obsessed with the MC but also threw her away so easily? Idk sometimes the dialogue is hard to follow.
The second arc also makes the MC a lot more sympathetic. She’s clearly extremely socially inept and maybe even neurodivergent, struggling with loneliness and her family’s financial issues. Everyone was so unlikable and pretentious in the old school. And it was seemingly on purpose considering they all turned their back and betrayed the MC when the stealing thing came out. In the first arc, a lot of the ending panels in the chapters gave a very foreboding and tense atmosphere using stark colours and strange visual perspectives and angles like one of the characters was about to stand up and kill someone. At first I thought it was funny but now I see it was intentional. Mari was not to be trusted. I don’t think I‘ve noticed this being used in the second arc which feels much more about healing from trauma and learning to trust again.
Lisi is a breath of fresh air in this cast full of unlikable characters. A little too much considering how almost everyone before her was flawed and unlikable in one way or another. Its nice to see the MC starting to open up to her tho, girl needs therapy so bad.
I’m sure Mari will come back and fuck things up again. Sne’s probably manipulating the MC’s younger sister to do something shitty as I speak.
