Acknowledged as a stylistic influence, along with other works by Ooshima, by Fumiyo Isobe, co-founder of lolita fashion brand Baby the Stars Shine Bright.
Also just a freewheeling ride in general, following the usual shojo formula of showing not telling, absurd/magical-realistic characterisations, extended metaphors and a reliance on intuitive communication. You'll certainly get strung along for a good ride, although it might not feel fulfilling by the end. On the other hand, I already want to go back and read it again to see what I missed the first time around.
