For some reason I kinda don't think he's a pure -path, but he was at least trying to become something like one.

I also can't imagine this story will as formulaic as simply "fight this guy, then this guy, etc." I'm guessing she'll fight at least a few more times like this but I kinda want it to break away after a short while.

I get the guy wants her to be stronger, but come on, you wanted her to hit him by surprise and win?

That ain't no way to improve herself.

Thanks for the chapter, I was looking forward to this.

I actually think he's normal dude that managed to win through adrenaline, and now he's suffering from the pressure of expectations on him...

He (thinks he) needs to enter that "abnormal" state, and decided to do it hurting those cute cats... unforgivable...

Basicamente, ele precisa sair gritando "e você acha que eu sou panela de pressão, porra?" :v

"Quite convenient that he is a psychopath and a kitty killer."
that's a thought on the spot, but with reflection it's wrong
but it is true that most people on earth will think like you, or the "hero"

I have two cows as companion animals
you probably already eat cow in your life
you do not kill them yourself, but if you do not eat a cow, no one has to kill it for you
so when you eat cow you are responsible for his death
a cat is an animal like any other, although in most countries it is considered a companion animal, there are countries where it is eaten
or simply in times of war people eat them

@Gauvain are you failing to comprehend the difference between killing something for survival and nourishment, and maltreating something just for fun just to relieve some anger?

Or do you stab your cows then let them slowly bleed to death before you process them? do you skin them alive just for shits, does the extra stress generated by the pain enrich the taste of the meat? you know we have laws against that stuff for a reason, internationally agreed laws at that.

Irrelevant either way, whatever it is you do with your cattle has nothing to do with this, i just felt like giving you shit for how nonsensical the argument was. The karate man in this story is not trying to kill the cat because he is hungry and needs the very small amount of meat on the kitten in order to survive, he is not going to eat the cat, and even if he were to kill it then serve it in some ramen, there are better ways of going about it, than punching a cat to death while you think about your psychological complexes related with your martial arts career.

Do you get it? he is taking his frustration on a kitten, he is an asshole. But since you don't get it, let me put it this way, imagine that it is not a cat, but a cow, and this guy it not going to punch the cow, but has a machete, and guess what, he is going to kill that cow, and then leave, abandoning a cow to rot and waste away, essentially wasting food, the conclusion? well he is still a fucking asshole!

However this is goes beyond just wasting food, this is about the psychological traits of psychopathy and lack of empathy shown towards those weak and defenseless in order to engage in amusement, this same logic now executed against a kitten, in the middle of the night, under a bridge in secrecy, is what then escalates to them killing humans, which is only worse because it directly involves ourselves as fellow humans, psychopaths only stuck with other animals they would be a problem just for farmers, pet owners and environmentalists.

"maltreating something just for fun just to relieve some anger?" we did not read the same thing
it's not frustration, or fun, it's learning to know yourself and it's not for pleasure, he does that precisely because it's against his nature
in normal times he takes care of these kittens
a true psychopath does not act like that
at best he would pretend in front of others to look "normal", but when there is no one to see him, there is no need to put on a mask

Do not talk to me about survival and need for food, my grandparents and my parents did not even eat a chicken or a rabbit a week for 6 people
it does not even make 150g of meat per person per week
and I can assure you that they did not eat a chicken a week, it was not every week, obviously they did not have hundreds of animals in the garden
it was more like putting the same bone in the soup all week long to have the taste

we are in 2019 and you will not make me believe that you do not know how animals are abused in mass livestock farming (even in the small farms, I worked there and I can tell you that there is gratuitous violence) and it's the same in slaughterhouse.
we have the laws, but no one to watch, no camera and when activists film and start a trial, the sentences are ridiculous
they are even sometimes attacked because they did not have the right to film, or because they hurt the image of the company.

@Gauvain "at best he would pretend in front of others to look "normal", but when there is no one to see him, there is no need to put on a mask"

A true psychopath does exactly that, methodically puts on a public mask so that when they get the opportunity they can cave in to their more perverse impulses, drives which clash with the societal norms they have to put up with, is the damn definition of one, as opposed to a sociopath that spontaneously and recklessly acts on his desires without worrying about their public image, with no reflection whatsoever, a psychopath cunningly premeditates their actions.

Cool story bro, but i don't really care about your grandparents, as i said, your farm and cows have nothing to do with this story, he is not killing the cat for food, that has nothing to do with this.

"or because they hurt the image of the company." and why do you think it would hurt the image of the company? mmh why would that be? oh why, oh why would they have to do all these common things behind closed doors, and away from prying eyes? certainly this trade "secret" is not about about a flavor recipe.

Listen corruption exist everywhere, the point is, a law is made because we have come to an agreement regarding the guidelines surrounding a proper behavior expected towards a situation, in this case, if the meat industry continues to break the law, that just means they are acting illegally, you know domestic violence is common too, but just because something keeps happening to the point of normalcy, that doesn't means that it is right.

And BTW, yes the sentences are ridiculous, but the fact alone that there are sentences at all, should be enough of a clue for you to figure out that, in fact, maltreating animals is perceived as something that is not alright, and that in fact it is done due to negligence, to save cost, and out of tradition rather than social acceptance. Ah shit i gave you the answer.

Then again, this has nothing to do with the story, since the guys is not hunting the cat for meat, he is just going to punch the shit out of it as a way to deal with his issues, he is an asshole.

you take my sentence that explains what a psychopath and said "it's the definition", but you do not take my sentence that says what it actually does in story
precisely, so why he takes care of the kitten in normal times, when there is no one to see him
it's the proof that he's not a psychopath, he would not waste time on this bullshit if it really was

if I talk about my family it is not for nothing, it is to demonstrate that we kill a lot more animals than is necessary for our consumption.
so indirectly we participate in a massacre of animals, it is socially accepted, but it remains a completely useless masacre
(besides, I speak of my family, but it was the same in the majority of families, only wealthy people could afford the luxury of eating meat more regularly)

"he is not killing the cat for food, that has nothing to do with this." are you sure ?
someone who kills animals in a slaughterhouse do not do it either to feed himself, he does it because it is his job
so he does it indirectly to feed himself, but in the end he still kills hundreds of animals a day

his job is high level athlete, if he wants to live from his job he must be one of the best karateka of his category
he's going to kill a kitten and that may allow him to have a future
he only has a few years of his life to be known enough, to have legitimacy as a coach or something else, for when he will be too old for the competition
it is true that it is crooked, but if you were in its place, nothing says that you would not do the same
it's obvious that it's a desperate choice on his part

"and why do you think it would hurt the image of the company? mmh why would that be? oh why, oh why would they have to do all these common things behind closed doors, and away from prying eyes? certainly this trade "secret" is not about about a flavor recipe."
a yes "trade secret" is sure it's a secret to beat animals for pleasure in a slaughterhouse, or the fact that they do not respect the laws
same for the farm, no secret, it's a farm not a factory of dishes all prepared
with recipes and products at unknown doses, dyes, or chemically created tastes
whether it's on a farm or a slaughterhouse, you do not have much choice, there are laws and they are the same for everyone

"Ah shit i gave you the answer." it is not an acceptable answer, because each community does not have the same traditions, which is normal for one is not necessarily for another
what he did is not acceptable for someone who loves animals, but that does not mean that it's illegal in Japan, or that it's frowned upon
it's a gutter cat, I would not be surprised if the Japanese consider it a "Burakumin"
in my country it is a job to take animals on the street, some are put to adoption, but when there is not enough room they are killed, and those who are not handsome, or who have injuries are often killed directly.
and it's probably the same in your country
another thing that is not necessarily frowned upon, hunters, they pay to kill animals, they eat meat,
but that's no longer the main reason they hunt not for food, but because they like to hunt

"he is just going to punch the shit out of it as a way to deal with his issues, he is an asshole."
I agree with you, it is not better than someone who beats his wife, or someone who physically or mentally abuses employers, or classmate, ...

@Gauvain you want a reason to why a psychopath would raise an animal to torture later? simple it is easier if the animal grows accustomed to your presence and puts less of a resistance than to go and hunt a grown one that will try to fight you. And if he raises it in secret he doesn't has to explain shit to anyone after he kills the cat.

We massacre animals for food, and money, which we use to acquire food, sanitation, education, power, and other vital things for survival. Within a capitalism system that depends on a market demand there's no real an excess, because the amount of meat solicited is not the amount of meat necessary to survive, but the amount of meat necessary to keep a capital growing. Of course capitalism is not concerned with anyone's well being, which is why we now have socialist like practices for a lot of basic needs, like education for example, and in more progressive countries even healthcare.

Killing a kitten wont make him reach the next level of skill needed to perform, he is at high school no one would go to a freshman graduate seeking coaching for karate, he has the following 5 to 10 years to actually professionally train and compete to then be a professional karateka, killing a kitten is not a short cut for 5 years of high level competitive training in a martial art, and hell you already admitted he is crooked, what's the point of continuing this?

That's the point is not a trade secret, but it is still a secret since we have regulations against them, no company openly advertises their use of unregulated chemicals on their products, but just like with domestic abuse, just because it is common doesn't means it is socially accepted.

I get your point, however, animal abuse is in fact, illegal in Japan. https://api.worldanimalprotection.org/country/japan this is not a case of "well it is ok on his culture", because it is not ok on his culture, the guy knows that he is infringing the established social norm, and is doing it anyways, of course in a secluded space were the chances of being found would be low, he is not hunter being licensed to entertain himself in a blood sport, he is a guy that is about to break the law and knows it, and prepared himself to do it in a way that would make it easy for him to get away with it.

@Doomroar I agree with most of what you're saying, but his behavior does not lead me to believe that he is a psychopath (regardless of the hindsight provided by reading the next few chapters) since he himself is saying that he "has to do something abnormal", which means that this type of behavior is not the norm for him, as it would be for a psychopath. Also, the point isn't whether or not he will truly improve as an athlete by punching a kitten, the point is that he believes he might, and that is all that matters (to him). Other than that, everyone agrees that the dude's a dick and a dumb asshole, so there was no real need for this discussion. Nice read though.
