Well the artist mentioned why. It's because in text you can have them have "facial paralysis" because the text will go into greater detail on what their emotional state is. In a comic strip you don't have that kind of leeway so you kinda have to choose moments when the paralysis exists otherwise it will give a really bad incongruity towards the story itself since the reader won't be able to identify with the character in the story.
