was pretty sad it got the ax but for me it's one of the funniest series I have read to date, can really only recommend to at least give it a try... a nice mix of shounen and comedy
I'm not sure whether past "weird* jump" was better or worse than current "weird jump" (or even if the term is still relevant today with abundance of titles like chainsaw man, kaguya, or spy x family getting mainstream notoriety ; it may have never been a "thing" other than a marketing ploy in the first place, with all the other magazines for adolescents already publishing genuinely weirder shit), but it certainly was its own animal.
Just binged through this in two days. It's... really okay. I really love the characters and their interactions, but a lot of the characters needed more screen time, and a lot of their relationships needed more development (read: closure). But this is a battle manga, and the battles were... not bad. There were a lot of cool moments, and definitely loads of creative and cool fights like
the volleyball one and the Toujou finale fight
. But a lot of the arcs and climactic fights felt kind of same-y i.e.
a new super strong baddy, then an unclear traning arc happens, and then Oga goes in alone early BUT his gang secretly joins in etc etc
, the power system felt vague and unsatisfying, and a lot of the main villains were kinda... bland. The gags were pretty good a lot of the times, but this manga relied on tasteless, frankly terrible jokes for its punchlines too much.
All in all, it was a fun read, and had a lot of potential it couldn't capitalise on.
