Maybe he isn't involved in the kidnapping after all. Maybe he has a hidden loot stash, a smuggling depot or something else and his son is keeping watch, so he knows he hasn't been kidnapped. Or he and his son are poochers and he doesn't want the villagers to see or fall into their traps. "Tell me, what is over there.", implies that she suspects him to be one of the kidnapper, yet keeps other possibilities open, too. She is not drawing conclusions too fast, while still keeping the possibilities in mind. I like that.
