It's definitely still a bad optic but on their pov they are after a demon king they were barely able to kill the last time it was alive, and they are on a self-imposed time limit before the demon king absorbs enough monsters and adventurers to be unstoppable again.
Heck, one of them died (before revival) so they aren't predilected towards letting it have any time to talk.
I won't be surprised if things went to shit in the next chapter as multiple concurrent disadvantages just makes it hard for a peaceful resolution.
Saitou is currently unable to communicate with anyone and running on instinct, the knights aren't likely to stop when their target is right there, Raelza is accidentally making things worse by provoking Saitou's protective instinct...

Maybe the elf knight can somehow make the former hero help? It's somewhat seem to be building up to something like that but that's just an assumption I'm making.
