And it came to pass, when the sun had reached its zenith over the Great River Thames, that the voice of the Almighty Big Ben thundered from the high tower, and the earth shook with the weight of his tolling.

Then Pedronimo fell upon their face, for the resonance was mighty, and they cried out, "Speak, O Keeper of the Seconds, for thy servant listeth with trembling ears!"

And Big Ben spake through the iron gears of providence, saying, "Pedronimo, mark well the rhythm of my swing. As the pendulum goeth to the left, and as it goeth to the right, so shall the seasons of thy life be measured."

"Go thou now into the marketplace, and tell the people: 'Woe unto him that ignoreth the chime! For he who dallyeth when I strike thirteen shall find his sundial cracked and his hourglass filled with the dust of regret.'"

Then Big Ben commanded them, "Take up thy brass polish and thy fine linen, and anoint the hands of the Great Face. For if the Minute Hand faltereth by but a hair’s breadth, I shall bring a Great Stagnation upon the land, and no man shall know if it be tea-time or the hour of judgment."

And Pedronimo rose, their heart beating in syncopation with the ticking of the heavens, and they departed to do all that the Grand Clockwork had commanded them.
