I know your pain, I was lured by a $100 discount on a crappy HP laptop with touchscreen. that friggin laptop can't even play DOTA 2 in 30 fps compared to my old ASUS laptop that could even run Crysis. after that I spend weeks wandering around computer stores, online shops, watching comparison videos etc all so I didn't regret buying my current laptop (it's a lenovo btw)

He's strong enough to throw her across a river. He should be able turn these notChina royals into mincemeat with one punch.

As someone who has bought many laptops the only good and bulletproof cheap laptops nowdays are old thinkpads most new laptops suck ass. You might being optimistic here be able to salvage your purchase of the laptop if everything is not sodered If it runs like ass go ahead and install linux it might offset some issues.

As a person who also running on linux nowadays, Dell has better driver support for linux. It's hard to tell for gaming laptops thou as they are specifically designed to run on windows and most of the time, you'll not be able to find the same stuff you need on linux. Much so with fan control and RGB settings, there's no proprietary drivers for those and the opensource ones I heard are pretty much for desktop use.

Personally asus is a hit miss hit situation for me bc of hinges but dell usually works okay I currently daily a i7 8th gen dell laptop I found for like 40 bucks and it works fine only issue I can find is that the battery gets pregnant pretty fast which might be bc I swapped the motherboard a while ago and mightve done something wrong ig. Also old thinkpad T series laptops still on top best laptop ive ever owned.

Wait I didn’t ask for what happens if you install linux on em. I asked if those brands are still decently built. Ofc they run on windows; I don’t even know if any major brands makes linux laptops from the factory.

My first gaming laptop is an ROG (the very first gen G750 with a 770M). It lasted 5-6 years before stuff failed.

My POS MSI Raider that replaced it, however, costs about the same for a 1070 and a keyboard whose W button pops in 2 years due to a design flaw (even the W button from the replacement keyboard from the warranty failed after 2 years too). This is what i get for buying gaming laptops in jakarta where you get meh specs at double the price cuz customs taxes. (I bought the ROG in SG)

It depends what series of laptops you go with Dell. I have a 7 year old inspiron 15 still running decently. It does have some issues due to it's age but it's much easier to get parts for it as there's more of it on the market than any gaming laptop.

Gaming laptops are similar to luxury brand of cars, powerful but absolutely a pain to get parts for it. If you really want something that will last a long time, go look for work laptops like Thinkpad or Dell Latitudes.

Here is a simple solution to your problem stop buying gaming laptops they are not worth it instead go and buy a pc and a old ass laptop that will likely get you through 7 years of your life without a hitch if you install a ssd on it. I'd recommend building your pc bc A. its cheaper and B. its not that hard nowdays

I was moving around a lot back then so carrying around a tower across several countries isn’t an option. The first gaming laptop was by chance; the second one a necessity. Currently actually planning to get a tower since a 6-year old gaming laptop isn’t exactly the best to get consistent 60fps outside Battlebit. Still mulling if i should risk it and stick with win10 (the obviously better OS) or switch to win11 (the one tragically supported by Microsoft)

Also, last i checked, work laptops (especially thinkpads) aren’t known for being good at gaming (my first laptop is a work laptop. The only shit that i can get 60fps is Warcraft 3, TF2, and VBA). Does Lenovo even still sell the thinkpad with the red clit? Thought they discontinued it.

There's another option for you if you still traveling a lot, building an Mini-ITX pc. Those will cost more but with it's small form factor, it will make it easier to carry around and such. If you really are desperate for a laptop, get the one with thunderbolt or a decent USB type C port. eGPU development hasn't been making much news nowadays as performance wise, they are capped due to the limitations of a laptop and power restrictions when compared to a desktop PC.

Do be aware that win10 support is expected to end it's support this year and there's no rumors going around that microsoft is planning to extend the deadline. Heck, there's more news that microsoft really wants you to get win11.

As for the latest Thinkpad, I'm pretty sure they still selling those with the red mouse joystick. It's their brand at this point. That is to be expected with Thinkpads thou as they are classified as work laptops rather than gaming laptops so it will underperform with games but will work fine with other stuff.
