@Kaarme I thought the same...but then I remembered some of the Asias don't seem to have a whole seat belt culture or whatever you'd call it. It was a thing back in 2014 in South Korea for a bit when two members of the Kpop group Ladies Code died in a car crash because the members weren't wearing seat belts...but it pretty much petered out again.

Can confirm: salespeople in Japanese shops are downright ravenous. There've been times when I was in shopping areas in stations and smaller clothing shops and such where you can basically feel the staff watching. If you hover in the wrong place for too long or show any apparent interest in the items on display, they will immediately latch on and begin their pitch. It's like you just drew aggro. They'll drive right in and engage in conversation to try to get a foot in the door and butter you up to try to secure the sale.

For someone with social anxiety it's absolutely nerve wracking.
