I did think some of the statements about Christianity "this life is worse than whatever god has planned as punishment / and I was such a
good christian until now!" waay underestimates how oppressive Christian psychology is (especially during the implied period) and how much it would have preyed on guilt and doubt.
No offense to anyone who is a devout Christian. That part felt a bit flimsy to me, accordingly.
But what I was reading between the lines (women oppressed for being women in a grim age where their autonomy is restricted, who haven't been able to do as their hearts wish in a society that doesn't even allow thinking of homosexuality, taking an opportunity where they find it to break free and go live something as close to their ideal lives as they might have the power to achieve) may have been different from what you saw there.
I'm not saying it's genius or anything mind.
