This arc is perfect. It's horrifying and disgusting and heartbreaking and that's WHY it's perfect. The truth of it's horror resonates with the part of us that knows the truth; the world is an uncaring, terrible place that chews up children and spits out adults and monsters.

Why? He didn't betray the Lagoon company, he betrayed one specific client who was a monster. Do you seriously think Rock could have lived with himself once he realized that every body that lay at her feet after that point was his fault? He has a hard enough time with the less violent aspects of their work, knowing that he helped that little girl keep destroying herself and others would have eaten him alive.
