The Weapon shop charges you what they think the selling price of the item is in order to identify it, which is why it's a last resort.
Bishops however can identify items for free, at the risk of becoming "scared" and needing to rest if they fail an attempt.

With how the girl's introduction/death was handled, I feel like they're gonna find her in the dungeon later on, since she was left there. Two thieves would be weird, but with Raraja's explanation that anyone who was frail was forced into it, I could see her ending up being a mage/priest/archer or something after MC figures her out.
