Sold most of my physical collection as I got older but among others this series is one that I kept.

Solid 9/10, the characters, story and art are great.

Ok, right in the first chapter is swastika. I wonder if it was there, even if that little genocide thing happened in the Japan instead.

@kedluben the swatiska is an ancient religious symbol for buddhas, hindus, and other indian religions, but the Nazi's stole it. Now, the first thing everyone thinks when they see the Swatiska is the Nazi's, and not it's true meaning from its origin.

They didnt steal it, it was used all over the place in Ancient Europe too.
It's literally just a cross with an extra line added at the end, of course plenty of cultures used it. Part of the reason why is just that carving curves into stone is much more difficult than straight lines, so the swastika was an easy way to depict something like a sun with much less work.

@Dom1anon bro its been 4 months since I've said that...
"Don't assume malicious actions when a look at a history book or a moment of deliberation can save you from humiliation." Get a life 😂

Lmao "bro" what do you mean with "everyone?" A BBC article doesn't change history. Angloid education systems are getting worse every year. Explains a lot about the state of things though...

There's nothing to argue about, you were factually incorrect, I corrected you and it hurt your feelings. Writing "get a life" in response and trying to weasel your way out of your stupid mistake instead of just going "oh I learned something new today" is just a consequence of your bruised ego.
If you'd have any maturity you would've thanked me for fixing that embarrassing gap in your education.

How tf do you steal a symbol that's been in use among your people and basically any other indo-European civilisation for 4000-5000 years? Did you think a cross with a line at every end was a special snowflake or something? That's like saying a party that chose a ring as its symbol "stole" the circle, Jesus.
Did the Americans/Russians/Polish/Germans/Romanians/Mexicans/Romans/Byzantines/Albanians/Austrians/Serbians steal the eagle? The brits the lion and the unicorn?
How do you think symbolism works? Hitler didn't go "wow I should steal a symbol from some country on the other end of the earth!" He just saw it as an old German symbol.
Here's a quote from wikipedia since you seem like the type that needs it:
In several major Indo-European religions, the swastika symbolizes lightning bolts, representing the thunder god and the king of the gods, such as Indra in Vedic Hinduism, Zeus in the ancient Greek religion, Jupiter in the ancient Roman religion, and Thor in the ancient Germanic religion.[11]

The swastika is an icon which is widely found in both human history and the modern world.[12][8]

Here's a question: Since every basic shape has been used for something at some point by now and using traditional symbols of your people apparently also counts as stealing, what WOULDN'T be "stealing" a symbol in your eyes? Does every new movement have to make up some new mythological animal or monster now?

Absolutely amazing series, one of my all time favorites. What an experience. The art is rough but fluid and beautiful, the character designs are great, the story that unfolds is heightened by every single character being likable. Seriously, there's almost no wasted potential when it comes to the cast across the entire series, everyone is awesome. I think Samura did a really good job balancing Manji and Rin's journey with that of the Itto Ryu. Because of perspective switching and great writing, you care for both sides. Anotsu and his whole gang are just as engaging to follow as Manji and Rin are. Add on to this that the series has some of the best fight scenes in manga as a whole and you can see why it's highly praised.

Blade of the Immortal isn't especially complex in its story or themes. It offers a simple plot structure but with depth derived from how strong the characters are and how engaging the scenarios tend to be. There are some moments in this series where the reader will simply be in awe. I can't spoil them, but some seriously badass stuff happens. BOTI is a great manga that I recommend to just about everyone.

Yes there is a lot of sexual violence. Not in pornographic detail, but otherwise it doesn't hold back much. I'm rereading right now, on chapter 25, and at least two different characters have been raped (and murdered, IIRC).

@mtwieg thank you for the detailed answer. While I hate that kind of shit I have heard that manga is great and I like the premise & love the newer anime OP for the anime done by the best grandpa metal band in japan, NINGEN ISU's Mugen No Juunin Butohen, so I'll check this out, and just skim quickly through anything that may make me uncomfortable
