If you wanted to get away then surely you should just start having people leave via the tunnels in the middle of the night then start the fire at 3 a.m. . Wjy try to do simultaneous massacre first where almost certainly at least one of the soldiers will escape the attempts of a girl to kill him with a knife and then manage to alert the guards ooutside the town walls?
