I really like how the author manages to make something as mundane as a family lunch so...uncomfortable, and stiff. The aunt's smiles are all too forced with too many teeth, the mother's smile is soft but her eyes are cold, the father always seems to be out or disconnected, the exchange between the boys ends up in hostility. Even a loving peck on the cheek gives off a bad vibe.

I agree fully. The mangaka did a great job at creating an unsettling atmosphere. Even tho all these things are normal I can't help but feel uncomfortable. Luke there's something disturbing that has yet to be uncovered.
