I think every Jazz aficionado immediately knows which song this chapter is named after, but just in case you're unaware, it's one of John Coltrane's hottest tracks, the title track from his 1960 album, "Giant Steps". I would consider this track to be one of the most widely known jazz standards.

Also featured in this chapter is a reference to a jazz song called "The Girl From Ipanema", which was originally written in 1962 by Vinicius de Moraes, with music composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim. It was recorded that year by Pery Ribeiro. English lyrics were later written by Norman Gimbel, and it became a huge international hit in 1964 when Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto recorded a version combining both the English and Portuguese versions. It not only became a jazz standard, but it also believed to be the second most recorded pop song in history, right behind "Yesterday" by The Beatles.
