Can we talk about that cover? It represents everything that has been discussed throughout the story so far. The composition is amazing, and it essentially screams NIHON! in a multitude of ways. The watercolour background with strong, solid streaks of nanquim paint reflects the country's traditional art form, with the swirling paint-shadow on her feet hinting at a dragon - the Guardian of the East. The non-perspective decomposition of the painter, with the unnatural bend on the neck (a Shaft Head Tilt!) unite tradition and modernity. The star-like explosion of elements diverging from the center, combined with swirly loose fabric give a sense of wind, of lightness and of power - and, ultimately, freedom. It's the perfect illustration for an artist at the height of her talent.
