It was a good gamble from the author to publish this story on shonen jump+.
I think it could have found it's public if it's was published on a yuri, Shojo or even josei magazine or if the implied romance was true. We didn't even have a glimpse of it for 20 chapters! That's so fucking long. The author focused too much on subjects they could have developed later on.
It's a shame.
And unfortunately, most author don't come back on their axed works to give it another chance.

People need to stop assuming a manga ending means it was axed. Let authors tell the story they want to tell. Not every manga has to be several dozens of chapters. A lot of people then complain when more drama/love rivals get added to try to keep the story going.
The author made an implicit promise, giving us a love Story between Moka and Kazuki. But in the end we get friendship and Marx. It's good, but that's not what they promised.

You can't begin your story with Kazuki looking at Moka in a sexual way, make her blush and perplex with remembering Moka's perfume, make Moka dump her shitty boyfriend because he was cheating and beating her, and also making Kazuki (and Hinata) beating the shit out of him, introduce us the future (arranged) husband for Kazuki in the name of "the boy from a rich family", making clear that Kazuki's mother isn't from the Bourgeoisie and finally Kazuki telling Moka how pretty she is when she's smiling.

There are too many setup hinting a potential romantic relationship to just end it at chapter 21.
So yeah it gets axed or the author bait us and give us another Hibike Euphonium saison 1.

Personally, I don't mind a short story if it keeps its promises.

I'm not saying that you'll get whatever you were hoping for next chapter, but it is weird to complain now when you don't know what's going to happen.

Maybe you will be right, but the author didn't "promise" you anything.
