Reckon you missed the 90s then, when mangakas are even more based (eg; Masamune Shirow) and drew porn anyway WITH artistry (he drew a LOT of porn artbooks. Like, actual proper art, but horny.) while drawing their multi-million dollar manga serieses (GITS, Appleseed).
