its very easy to explain away "open gayness" as "straight girl fangirling" or admiration, and when talking to a crush, fear of homophobia or backlash can cause you to revert to safe "if you were a boy" type things, even if youre generally out... i dont think its unrealistic and even if it can be read as slightly ooc it didnt seem too off for me. mb bc it was too relatable for me.

Fair. Now that I think about it, I do remember one or two yuri mangas with the lesbian girl hidding her feelings with the "I would date you if you were a boy". Maybe I just don't like the way it was wrote here, I don't know...
