Love the MC's family, wonder what happened to him

Also is that a school for misfits or something? A middle schooler with pierced mouth looks a bit weird lol
That's because they're in high school, not middle school.

Not allowed in any school, only higher education aka University would overlook this

not to mention this is Japan.

And she's wearing torn leggings or something. Very relaxed dress code at that school, huh.

Yeah thats why I think the school itself is special she even gave a foreshadowing 'everyone here has their circumstances'

MC also was a recluse for a year

I thought they were highschoolers? Like wasn't waku preparing for highschool then didn't manage to skip years or something? Well not like it matters because the dress code is still cooked

What do they mean by "everyone has their reasons"? This is a school, is it not? Is it exclusively for drop-outs and underperforming students elsewhere?

Are there no children local to the region?

@OsisNie Could you explain how you get minori from autumn? I know it can be aki or shuu but I'm a little unclear on how it's Minori. Thanks.

I'm not an etymologist, so I can't explain why it is, just that it is. You can see it at the bottom of this list of readings, though it does have an asterisk saying that it's a unique reading for it: https://namedic.jp/names/name/秋

There is a phrase that goes "minori no aki" (実りの秋) which is like "fall is for the harvest", so maybe it comes from that.

Oh okay, I'm learning Japanese so I didn't know names can be a little different when it comes to their pronunciations. I assumed outside of exceptions like 明日 they'd just follow the typical onyomi or kunyomi readings when it comes to names.
Thanks 👍

Seems like this confirms there's no older sister and the FMC is just pretending. But if a shame, I was interested to see how the character interactions would play out. This still looks interesting though.

No, name readings are a complete wild west. For example, in Tonikaku Kawaii, the protagonist's given name is 星空, which means "starry sky" and as a normal word is read "hoshizora", but the reading of his name is "Nasa", cause his parents thought it'd be funny if his name was read like NASA (i. e., the National Aeronautics and Space Administration). So, you're basically free to come up with whatever reading you like for the name of your child.

Yeah I've noticed in recent times it's kind of a gamble with how it sounds. I've noticed it's normally a less common sound than normal but I usually need to hear it from the horses mouth to know for sure. I've so far learned some of the more common ones but it's still a gamble for my expectations so far.
