Commenting on that "do not self-medicate" note, I do understand fears over DIY HRT. But with how the world is to trans people, it can be some people's only option, especially with the direction things seem to be going in right now. There's risk, but it can be done safely more easily than people seem to think, as long as you keep track everything with blood tests.
It's definitely better to get prescriptions and a doctor to help with advice, but that's if you can.

"Don't self medicate" and how am I supposed to medicate in fucking albania with transphobic parents then? There are so many vetted online resources by people who have specialized experience, much more than an endocrinologist who has only had a couple trans patients. It's one thing for a character in a manga to say "you should transition openly before you get hormones" (which is even more bullshit) and the translator to add "don't self medicate even if you need it!"
