Thanks for the TL, doing great work here.

But with all respect, I will admit I have been glancing quickly through this arc, waiting to see if it ended already.

I will go back and reread it slowly and correctly as a marathon when I am sure this arc is over. This arc is just not pleasant to read as it comes out.

Sorry.

chapter 21.. is it.. is it finally time? Will she finally do anything at all? Properly put into words what she hasn't ever before even when he tirelessly did and give back for once? Finally make him understand that she considers both him and herself equals in every regard?
I won't call him spineless since he absolutely isn't but he clearly needs this.

I will eat my hat if it doesn't go all the way. But I want to believe that this might just be it.

I think the part that gets me is that Miyuki is sitting here worried about Sorata rejecting her, when if she'd ever actually listened to what he says to her or watches what he does for her, she'd see that he's been tying himself in knots trying to do everything for her sake and putting her first. Including to the point that he'd rather she go back to Kyoto and attend a school that suits her level of ability, rather than staying in Tokyo at the level of school that he could just barely manage to get into.
At least she's self-aware about the fact that she really has only been thinking of herself, if she's genuinely questioning whether Sorata really loves her. You'd think the last decade of their lives together was spent with her eyes closed and her ears blocked, given that logic.

But at least it would seem they're finally about to actually talk. The key, though, will be whether Miyuki defaults back to her usual "Kyoto-isms", and if she does, whether Sorata finally speaks up saying "I don't actually know what you mean when you talk like that". If that happens and they can segue into revealing what Ayano's been pulling for a decade now, maybe a lot of this can be sorted out and resolved between them.

If that misunderstanding is allowed to persist...then even if they resolve this current problem between them, that's just stalling out the story for the sake of maintaining the original gimmick, but in a way that would feel more forced than ever, given this is the chance for that gimmick to be revealed and confronted. Even PrettyBoy has figured it out, and he should maybe speak up as well, because Sorata has to figure this out. Even if it means the end of the series, better that, than letting it continue to drag on forcing a mismatch of communication that really could be solved here and now, and arguably is supposed to be solved here and now.

Also - I know that Mary is Miyuki's friend first, but her just automatically assuming that Sorata did something wrong and was deserving of a beating just reinforces how much I kinda dislike her character. She's just really flat--she had some good development around her "feeling like she doesn't fit in" and all the bullying she went through, but for her to turn around and do the same thing to Sorata, when I'd argue she should be more in-tune with his sensitivity and being misunderstood than most, feels like a waste of her character.
Yes, Sorata has PrettyBoy on his side, but all four of them should really be a cohesive unit. Mary constantly getting on Sorata's ass about every little perceived slight (whether it's real or not) just gets so tiring after awhile.

It seems like the ahole (older brother) doesn't like Sorata and I want to know the reason y. From what we've read Sorata is a great person/partner and would die for miyuki
It's because Ayano thinks Miyuki is being held back by staying with Sorata.

The school that Miyuki is currently attending in Tokyo is way below her actual academic means; we get further confirmation of this when she runs into her old classmates from middle school in that diner a few chapters back, when they ask what prestigious school she's attending all the way in Tokyo. Upon hearing the name of the school, they express disbelief, because it's effectively a mid-tier academy, with nowhere near the level of acclaim that they'd expect someone of Miyuki's caliber to be.
It's also the school that Sorata was able to get into, with his own academic potential. So Miyuki has "settled" below her actual level, in order to be with Sorata.

And Ayano thinks that's a waste--but he also generally thinks Sorata's not good enough for his sister across the board, and so he wants to break them up. He also probably doesn't like that Miyuk's engaged to someone who's not from Kyoto. He's pretty elitist about his home region, right down to how much offense he takes at being told he has a "non-standard dialect", in effect, when they were all sitting down to dinner a few chapters back. So Sorata not being from around where Miyuki grew up is another reason for Ayano to "other" him, and dislike him.

I have disliked her character from the start because she isn't funny or entertaining and the scenes Mary is in just feel like a drag to read.

I think it's sorta similar to Sorata - she's also thinking that he's doing it out of obligation/love for his grandfather. That he's doing all that for her b/c his personality is the type where of course he'd be kind to his fiance, however he felt about her.

I mean if I were Sorata I wouldve given up on her a long time ago so I respect his determination. Also guys, theyre high schoolers, they arent exactly the paragons of maturity and communication. The brother should get sent away tho Idk why she doesnt slap the shit out of him if she really cares about soras feelings.
