i am more of a silent reader and enjoy the comments, but this chapter left me with so many questions.

first what is the deal with yamada's maternal grandparents, they seem pretty rich, but he does not like the father?
even though he works in a high class restaurant?

and secondly, i really dont get the age gaps on the paternal side.
grandmom is 57, but has an adult son and it seems middle school daughter?

and now i am even more invested in the past of yamada's parents and want a spin-off of their youth years

Yamada's mom looks to come from the kind of old money quasi-aristocracy that is generations removed from having to do anything for a living. So anybody who has an actual job, no matter what that job might be, is on a lower rung of the social ladder. Plus, we see in the back half of the chapter that Dad comes from pretty humble beginnings.
