It's always a tad weird when manga portrays cooking as some sort of mystical lost art that only a few chosen ones are capable of wielding.
Honestly this is still better than most because she can actually improve, even if only marginally.

It's always a tad weird when manga portrays cooking as some sort of mystical lost art that only a few chosen ones are capable of wielding.
Though if you are completely new you can easily over season things. You can add too much salt or too much pepper or too much [anything] and then it won't taste good. People also have different preferences for salt for example. Some like a bit more salt, some less. If you don't use enough, then the food is bland.

It's not rocket science, but it does take practice. And having someone give you tips is also helpful. I remember the first time I made pancackes, I didn't preheat the pan long enough, so the pancacke got somewhat stuck to the pan. It didn't turn out horrible, but it wasn't a pretty pancacke at all.
