Seems weird that he'd make Shiela not say his mom's name, when if his mom's listening in she'd easily be able to piece together that they're talking about her anyway.

Good luck trying to pull your sword out of its sheath in that position.

@nomadicengi
could be, but also the fact that at certain length, it's just either not possible at all, or extremely awkward to pull out a sword from the scabbard that is on your back without any modifications.

@Askorti yeah he'd have to grab the bottom of his sheath to rotate the sheath around his body to get i t off the sword cause his sword is longer than his arm for sure. That is why those metal sheathes with the V shaped hole along the length are best. you only need to draw your sword 4 to 8 inches before it is free from the sheaths, but then your sword needs a notch to click into the sheath and the sheath has to be a near exact fit unlike a leather one that fully encloses the sword.

@Liquidxlax Sword sheathes are generally not made of leather, just leather-covered. They're almost always made of wood. Also, it is possible to make a somewhat functional back-scabbard, Shad of Shadiversity designed one and made videos about it. Pretty cool stuff.

This world works on RPG logic, so in order to become strong and skilled you have to fight monsters in dungeons instead of training under someone who is already strong and skilled.

@Askorti different types I guess because I've held and seen swords European styled whose sheath's were like a blade shaped sheepskin. Floopy with a bit of a rigidity in width,, not thickness or length

@Liquidxlax That's why I used words like "generally" and "almost". There were cases of flexible sheathes for swords, but they were a small minority compared to wooden-core ones. You could say that wooden-core was the standard used by most people around the world, from Europe to Japan.
