Let's agree that it's not required for now; they can surround and gang up just fine against a smaller number of unarmed foes, since weapons in an armature hand can be dangerous to friends and foes alike; basic training required to properly not harm each other with weapons.

Things could've changed if they were against another mob group. I would not be surprised if in this fight, the leader actually pulls a weapon out of thin air if they are going to lose.

Sheesh, 2 vs 20? That's a tough fight, especially if the entire fight take place on the rooftop. Maybe Akita and Miu have a better chance if they move the fight in a spot less open inside the school building.

I can imagine Miu taking one person out and using their body to do a giant swing to knock down a chuck of the legion like bowling pins, lol.

no, it actually make sense that they dont have weapon, a knife or a baseball bat in a mob fight is really dangerous because they attack all at once, friendly fire is the less you want in a group of strangers. a graze from a kick or puch is manageable compare to a knife or a bat.

Facts, it takes much less skill to stomp someone out than it does to accurately wield a weapon with no training

But he could also be armed?? His authority isn't any more challenged if the whole group is armed including him, compared to the whole group being unarmed. He's still outnumbered 19 to 1 in his own group either way, it's entirely dependent on his charisma.

Not trying to be mean but y'all are working way too hard to justify something that doesn't really make sense.
