I'm a little bit surprised that he's still conscious since the previous chapter had him slump to the ground as if he'd been KO'd.
Also it's shocking how strong he's gotten in only a few months, he's beaten a karate master, a nationally ranked amateur wrestler, and now seems to be taking the lead against a lifetime martial artist who has trained many different disciplines. He even flash-knocked down Setsuna during training just before the knife guy fight.

I do love how they're incorporating some form of Akita's intelligence in the midst of all of this. Setsuna even admits that Akita has a talent for underhanded battles. His adaptability in fights, as well, definitely manages to have him succeed in the long run. Though, I'm curious on where this will end because it seems as though we're wrapping up this arc with old man and Miu edging close to victory and Akita/Bartleby coming to its final showdown. If Akita loses, I wouldn't mind and vice versa.

Most of that has to do with his astonishing talent for underhanded battle(Setsuna states) and his ability to adapt when the situation calls for it. Though, I do want to see him lose sooner or later for the sake of progressing his character.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this wrestler girl is going to have something terrible happen to her at some point for the sake of the MC's character development, just feels like that kind of manga.

You'd forget that intelligence was his forte before he got into the world of violence, he was the top student in their school

Lead leg headkick off of a jab. Is that even possible mechanically?

Yeah but it's extremely demanding in terms of dexterity. But you bring up a good point I wasn't thinking about which leg he was kicking with but a left leg kick makes no sense there. He's kicking into the closed side, because of Bartleby's straight his shoulder is actually protecting his head you need to land really high to get his noggin, and on top of that it looks like he switched stances in between getting hit and the kick, even if it was a switch kick how the hell did he pull that off while being punched without being knocked down? If he threw a right leg head kick it would land much more effectively (into the open side where Bartleby is only protected by his left hand).

That kick was akita's last resort [looks sick as hell], if he doesn't win with it the fight is over

It looked like he throw it like he did with watanabe as a last in the gas shot because he is falling/done for sure since that punch landed before he threw the kick.

Akita throwing to the closed side does make sense tbh since the point of the sequence is him catching Bartleby off guard. Plus, the idea of a cross counter but with a head kick instead of a punch is pretty frickin cool.
Also, upon reread, yeah the kick does seem pretty plausible if you consider the jab a feint (which it looks like it was since he never pulls it back). And the panel where it looks like he's rocked from Bartleby's straight could be him leaning back for the kick that's already underway.
Even with all that said, in reality, yeah all he's hitting is shoulder.
