My disappointment with this is immeasurable.

For those unfamiliar, this started with a one-shot called Koroshi to Uso no Marriage, released on April 27, 2024. It was a police-crime romance thriller packed with action and violence. If you haven't read it, go check it out—it's amazing. Initially, if I remember correctly, the artist announced that it would be serialized around November 2024, but it ended up being "delayed."

However, as you can see, the premise and story of the one-shot were completely abandoned. Instead, the serialized version was rewritten into a generic high school setting, retaining only the MC's name and design, the FMC’s design, and the action/violence. What a letdown. This is basically Kakegurui, but with gambling replaced by action, violence, and sex.

I genuinely cannot comprehend why they would throw away such an interesting premise for something so uninspired. The one-shot had so much potential… Seeing it reduced to a cliché-ridden high school setting is a disheartening change. What a colossal waste of potential.

Thanks for the chapter!

I thought it would be a girl teaching a guy to fight properly but after she beat the crap of him, it might be her tormenting him as a way of training. Will follow for now to see how the story progresses. Thanks for the translations.

@Litreara No wonder the girl looked familiar to me. I just thought it was a case of the artist having same face syndrome but your comment reminded me of the one-shot I read. Definitely different & it is a shame it got changed whether it was the author's intention or the editor telling them what to do.

I’ll give this a chance to see if the author can cook. I was surprised the entire setting changed. I accidentally grabbed the one shot while thinking it was chapter 1 and thought how peak it was. Then I grabbed chapter 1 and saw the major differences and was a bit disappointed but the chapter was good still. I hope it’s not like Kakegurui minus the gambling… but it’s leaning like it might be. 😭

Art style is amazing, caught my attention right away.

MC's mindset is pretty interesting. Acting contemptuous because he thinks his intelligence will allow him to outlast every inferior being in society. At least he's smart enough to know he wasn't going to win against the karate kid. I'm curious how his views will shift as learns how to get violent to get the results that he wants.

Rikudou looks cute, I like her design and her demeanor...so far. I hope the author doesn't go overbroad with her being preachy about her violence philosophy. If the dialogue gets too pretentious that it's cringeworthy to read through, then that's it for me.

Too bad the original vision from the oneshot wasn't recaptured in this serialized work but I'll give this work a fair shot.

I guess editor-san wanted a more generic highschool setting.

Also, I agree with the Kakegurui comparison. I really want to like Kakegurui, but the highschool setting really limit the scope of how big and even over the top the gambling could be.

100% is the publisher, mangakas have to obey to their rules or they get axed and lost the job. The only market not yet under the control of big manga corporations is the doujinshi one where authors have much more freedom.

real shame that the original premise of the one-shot was abandoned for the (likely editor/publisher forced) school setting but if it stays in a similar vibe, and is as enjoyably unhinged as Kakegurui, I will be there

As a fun cope u could imagine that this is a "prequel" to the events of the one-shot given the characters are same design and name
