But a thing for sure... considering this is a "World end boy meets girl" and a "suicide love story" manga, Reiji is bound to succeed in what Esemori failed. Be it before or after JAV and another timeskip.

It will be up to Reiji to save her from the JAV dead end. Otherwise, ReiKo shippers will rejoice in the near future (ReiRi is dead after Reiji saying farewell to Yuri and ReiGen was finished by Reiji friendzoning Gen-chan).

She was exploited as a child as briefly mentioned in chapter 138, which is probably what led to her abyss to begin with.
While sudden, this is unfortunately a common turn of events for people with unhealed trauma.

There is very few events in this manga that seem forced when you understand the reasons behind them.
