I like that Broken Blade is about the only contemporary mecha around whose main characters are actual adults facing adult issues, and not power-tripping teens. At least, I know no other example of it, though I have no interest in franchises like Gundam.
It was just so good, so unique, that nothing came close. Being a magi-tech-mech series set itself apart from its peers. I watched most mainline Gundams, and I can’t say any could fill the Delphine-shaped void.

Is this the final chapter to be translated?

If so, I better start binging.

Interesting parting twist for this final arc. So the "Prederica" twins were technically both fake and just body doubles for the real Prederica who died long ago. But to the people, the one not called Manau is a true leader qualified to assume the identity of the real one. Even better than the real princess, objectively. It's a shame her crazy bio dad got what he wanted in the end and succeeded in getting one of his daughters on the throne. The one now called Queen Prederica has what it takes to rule, but I have no idea whether she was happy with it. The monarchy was abolished and she still ended up as the head of state of a democratic country. I guess it's not that bad that she's well loved by her people.

Given that the mangaka just wanted this to end, I'm not surprised Rygart was "killed off" here to close this chapter of his life's story. I didn't know (or remember) he wasn't born in Krisna but in Assam, so technically the MC "died" in his homeland.

We got a "fake your death to live a slow life with your waifu the divorced former queen" ending. Unsatisfying ending from a world-building perspective (nothing was ever revealed about the ancient civilization that built Delphine, nor was Rygart's quartz-disabled problem ever truly addressed), but I guess it's not too bad if only viewed for the characters and their relationships. Plus I got a side ship to go with it too, assuming Folse and Botan are a thing now, given they're both trusted with this most guarded secret.

Hah, it's finally over after so many years. Off to the Completed pile, more than 10 years after I first started reading this in 2013. :boomer:

Truly, one of the mecha manga that trapped me in the mecha genre as a whole. Cant believe its ending like this, always love how the mecha fight this manga depict. A letdown indeed as the author clearly just gave up at wrapping up the story. Still nice nice I guess, I could see the story has an ending at the very least... thanks for the TL! Time to reread it again i guess...

Yep they are not power tripping teens like Akira or David Martinez..

I'm sad that the author gave up on this series in the end.

I like that Broken Blade is about the only contemporary mecha around whose main characters are actual adults facing adult issues, and not power-tripping teens. At least, I know no other example of it, though I have no interest in franchises like Gundam.

This series also had elements of political intrigue, military strategy… and I actually believe the author gave up on it only very recently. Till the chapter before this one, in fact, I could see the narrative lines flowing smoothly: Zess' plan to attack Mizram, the machinations of Orlando, even the Assam campaign was just a cog in the plot wheel. So I was shocked when I learned this chapter was the last one. It's like Yoshinaga decided to throw in the towel because this manga wasn't putting bread on the table or something.

I had grown to care for many of the characters in all sides here. This ending is wholly unsatisfactory.

Oh, well. I guess it's gonna be a while till another mecha manga that breaks the mould comes around. Bokura no: Ours doesn't quite make the cut as it's still teenagers and too philosophical.

Zuygoya already has me covered for the "echii manga that are dropped midway genre", also Zuygoya every now and then revives old series whenever he manages to get things off his system.

He works on whatever series is getting popular, and he's always trying knew series things get stale. 30+ year mortgage and 2 kids, he can't slow down.

this manga is ended terribly, i really enjoyed the political issue and stuff but too bad
idk why but is it axed? or just the author doesn't want to continue? iirc this manga was in hiatus for long before it comes back.

anyway, as long as my gurl sigyn is happy, i'm good

I think it's safe to assume that's Rygart at the end, from the way Sigyn behaved. Then at least Rygart and Sigyn are now together, which is all I wish for

While it is unsatisfactory from the point of view of so much still being left up in the air, I am happy the dude got his happy ending, after all he did for his country he deserved to finally be allowed a real proper rest, the legend died so the man could live.

It was an end. A good one? A bad one? At least ended and not become Next Dimension.

t
that's it?
what happened to Zess? he showed up out of nowhere, became hitler, then he became wannabe nobunaga, then peaced out of the story again
delphine suddenly has never hinted at superpowers and krisna can literally mass produce mini delphines now so they have the strongest army? also some delphines mkII stop a full on athens assault? was it zess? who knows!

oh well, at least Rygart gets a break from war, boy was fucked up from it, too bad author couldn't even show him smiling after everything ended, he deserved at least that
