From what I understand Lu Jinnian wants to be someone who deserves Qiao Anhao but since they're from different worlds plus some evil people putting down Lu Jinnian (spouting nonsense and lies) that made him back off.
But it is really frustrating to see them not talk. Only a simple conversation would have made everything clear but then again we wouldn't have a story if they did. ?
