Yeah, but then again, the story presented so many conflicts/problems that couldn't possibly have resolutions in a oneshot without being rewritten. Series would be needed to fully flesh that out.

It's basically a pilot. Seems like they put everything on the hopes of it becoming serialized, which is why it didn't try to wrap up like a proper one shot

Yeah, I agree. That's why I said it felt like they're banking hard on serialization, since this is a clear "chapter 1" and not a oneshot at all
