In short, it was his embarrassing night in Nanae's house.
I don't blame him for that tho, Nanae ask him to take a bath together, Ayato imagining her naked in front of him, and her lil sister likes him. Nanae said that she likes someone like Ayato that always have a clear objective and always strive toward it, she always hinting that she likes him and want to be with him. And suddenly Nanae saying i want to see the clear sky together again, and Ayato think that maybe she likes him, and saying nonono we can't i want us to start as a friend first before all that. And Nanae burst out laughing, Ayato embarrassed himself in front of her family, and when dinner time arrive, lil sister says to Ayato "Onii Chan, Do you like Big sister?" in front of the family, Nanae can't contain her laugher, and well mc embarrassed for the rest of the night.
No wonder Nanae can't win. He seized the opportunity and she didn't take it because she is a coward.
