Except I'm the one that cares for origins and respect for the culture. Clearly you don't, you actually went the extra mile to shit on vtubers having a Japanese origin by doing the whole schtick of "thing, Japan". Also, why the fuck should I care if I'm doing linguistic prescriptivism on a term when the essence of said term changing ruined the quality of an entire hobby?, reminder that the term is even being used by all kinds of steamers in all sorts of platforms despite the fact that the term literally has "YouTuber" as a part of it.
Thing vs thing Japan is the idea that people ascribe something from Japan is better/sacred just because it's from japan ૮.ᆺ. ა
It comes from a post where someone pointed out that random photos from Japan got more attention than the same photos labeled as being from a different country ૮.ᆺ. ა
What
@AnonymousContributor is saying, is you're making the idea of vtubers a more sacred thing than it actully is just because it's from japan ૮ .ᆺ. ა
Language evolves regardless of what people want, all fruit used to be called apple, the word 'fruit' is imported from the French language. 'Vtuber' is the inverse of a niche word becoming comman due to a need for such a word to be coined ૮ .ᆺ. ა
Since idols are a much more niche thing in the west, it was far more easier for the term to become diluted to what it is today. The majority of westerners don't know what 'idol culture' even is, other than "don't interact with the opposite gender", "no dating even in private", and for vtubers "Never show your face", even though its much more than that ૮ .ᆺ. ა
But regardless of what idol fans would've wanted, it was bound to happen due to a need for such a word to be coined ૮.ᆺ. ა
