Certain pages in some manga fail to load

Lately I have started rereading some old mangas and noticed that often some pages will fail to load. The pages that failed to load are pretty random. After they failed to load, sometimes they would load if I chose retry, but sometimes they would not. I have tried changing server to no avail. I read in long strips if that is relevant. Also, I read on my phone through Chrome.

I tried using safari and had the same problem.

This does not seem to affect newly updated mangas somehow.

Hopefully I am in the right section for this problem.

^ Yeah, iOS mobile browsers (which are all forced to use the same awful core, making it pretty much meaningless which browser you're using because they're essentially just different skins) are very stingy about memory usage and will frequently just throw their hands in the air.

On the other hand, if you're sure this is a problem only with chapters that aren't newly uploaded, the reason is probably because the images aren't cached at the cache servers, and so they have to be fetched separately from the source. Obviously this can be somewhat slow depending on the circumstances, but the images shouldn't typically outright fail to load.

@AbyssalMonkey I have tried closing Chrome completely, but it doesn’t seem to help. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

@Teasday new chapters seem to work just fine. I haven’t really tested them seriously, but every new chapter of any manga I have read so far seems to work fine.

Also, both Chrome and Safari failed to load exactly the same pages. For example, I have been trying to read the first chapter of Otome Kaiju Caramelize, and it failed to load on page 2, 11, 24 etc. I haven’t tested if this is the same for other manga. I also haven’t tried it with Chrome on PC (not at home right now. Will have to wait a few days to do so)

Is it possible that certain pages are stored on different server, and that server is being wonky? I have no idea what really happens, so this is just a wild guess from me.

@illusion_moon Well, it's not impossible. There's an image server option in the reader (as an advanced option, so make sure to tick that box at the top of the settings) which you might want to try to change manually to see if another server works better for you. Refresh after changing the option.

That said, I tested the chapter you mentioned with all three of the servers and the pages loaded fine.

@Teasday changing server worked! I changed to NA/EU2 and now everything loads just fine. I already tried changing server yesterday, but apparently I tested every other servers but NA/EU2.

I wonder why other servers don’t work for me despite they working fine for you. Well, I am glad anyway that everything works now. Thank you very much for answering all my questions and helping me work through this.

@Teasday What about an actual 404 error? For example this chapter here https://mangadex.org/chapter/748835/1 will always try to fetch images from https://s0.mangadex.org/ no matter what server I choose, and all 3 server options resulting in Image [x] failed to load (whole chapter).
