Emden went and blew away the expectations, what a guy. I was a bit disappointed about the lack of reaction from the German guard but this chapter delivered at least some.

I knew Emden was likely to win since he's a "rival" of the MC, but I really was hoping he'd lose. The other guy was just such a more wholesome man. Plus, the "strategy" of punching your opponent's fists is bullshit. I do martial arts, and that wouldn't work. Your opponent is punching first, which means that you'd have to, first of all, react to the punch, and then bring your first back for a punch, and then hit a small moving target. It's nearly impossible if your opponent is skilled. So this whole fight was bullshit.

Seems like solon crippled his hands for boxing forever, he already got the accolades so maybe its no big deal.

@Varler I mean if a trained human have the reaction speed to catch arrow or slice bullets mid air whose to say a human that trained to intercept a fist mid punch is impossible.

It’s more like nobody does it cause modern martial arts uses paddings so it’s kinda useless in today’s combat sports.

@Varler: I think part of the purpose of that flashback of Emden hammering away at that tree to 'temper his fists' was to help justify that to be fair.

@Varler Look at the way Emden counter punch was drawn. On both cases, Emden's arm hasn't really extended - the first one where he blew Solon's right hand was more obvious: he basically "placed his fist" (and reinforced it with his left) rather than trying to fully extend his arm to "punch back" (during the point of impact). He doesn't have to be faster than Solon to do that, just very sturdy fist (from... punching tree to death) and precision.
