At what point did I miss that in this world nukes haven't been invented and the US is at war with the Soviets who are still around?

chapter 1 or 2 of part 2 for the nukes. the ongoing war thing I think is an asspull.

Yoru's entire objective from the beginning was to get Chainsaw Man to vomit up nuclear weapons, but somehow forgot along the way and only became interested in turning Denji/Chainsaw Man into a weapon.

She forgot because everyone eventually forgets about the stuff Chainsawman eats. It takes longer for strong devils to forget, but even Makima forgot the original name of the hybrids for instance.

Since nuclear weapons have somehow made a return, and looking at Denji now, does this mean everything Chainsaw Man has eaten has now been freed?

My guess is no. I think the stuff Chainsawman ate always have a chance of returning as time passes (they mentioned somewhere that all the concepts he ate will eventually return) and Denji being temporarily dead opened a window for nukes to return.

I’m confused. Did denji un erase nuclear bombs after being killed or did Americans discover nuclear bombs for the second time? The fact that they say it’s the very first time being used and it’s against the Soviets makes me think it’s the second

He either threw it up or Pochita died. I don't think people can discover something the Chainsaw Devil ate because, iirc from the first part whatever he eats is, quite literally, erased from reality.

Pochita ate Nukes, Nazis, AIDS and a punch of stuff. It makes me wonder if Pochita's plan before Denji showing was to erase concepts that makes primal devils and the four horseman stronger.
Weakening the four horseman enough, you would be stopping the apocalypse from happening.

Yoru too remembered nuclear bombs since her pact with Asa was to recover them from CSM. The weird thing here is that Yoru says she had forgotten and now remembers when that wasn't the case.

I believe what she forgot is not the existence of nuclear weapons, but the specifics of the event that caused Chainsawman to eat the nuclear weapon devil, or all the misery that was caused by nuclear weapons.

The event between the four horsemen and Chainsawman is still shrouded in mystery, and to be honest, there have been hints that Yoru is missing important key memories about her connection with Pochita. I believe she doesn't remember the reason why she hates Chainsawman, only remembers that Chainsawman ate some of her weapon children. There's a possibility that she may have attributed the reason for these feelings to the wrong individual. It would be funny if the plot twist were that she asked Chainsawman to eat the nuclear weapon devil herself, and she remembered now.

In the Reze or the Gun Devil arc, it's mentioned that there was an ongoing war between the USA and the Soviet Union, but I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a Cold War. Reze was an agent working for the Soviets with the mission of retrieving the gun devil parts owned by the Japanese government stealing Denji heart because he was a potential threat capable of eliminating the gun devil, potentially depleting the governments of their Gun Devil parts, or at least that was what most likely leaked to the powerful governments, causing the International Assassins Arc. The Gun Devil parts were the equivalent of nukes in the world.

Depending on how much of the gun devil parts Yoru summoned to her, she may have caused the unintended consequence of getting rid of the only thing holding the two countries from going full-on war, and with the USA (re)inventing the nukes, most likely have taken the initiative to be the first to strike when the Soviets don't have a equivalent of nukes anymore.

The fear of nuclear bombs is deeply ingrained in japanese culture as a societal scar that won't heal because they ate two. A lot of their cultural icons like gozilla are linked to it. One could say that in this case its Russians who fuel the fear behind War's new power but its kind of a meta thing with Yoru crying and looking directly at the reader. Its aimed at its japanese audience

yes and no. you CAN NOT provide a reasonable argument against Fujimoto being inspired by the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by nazi russia. this whole part is all about these themes. and the nukes, too, especially the nukes.

I forgot where they mentioned it, but the concepts Pochita eats do in fact slowly come back.

It's been so long I might be remembering wrong, but I thought CSM had deafeated war (in some way) which is what caused people's fear about war to lessen.

This chapter made me think for some reason war got defeated on purpose to get rid of nukes (for some reason) then forgot that they did so on purpose. After forgetting about why they got rid of nukes... then they went on a quest to get them back and now that they remember why they did so in the first place they regret it.

Other comments make me think im wrong... but it does seem this author's style

Nazi Russia? You can condemn the actions of Russia, but the Ukrainian Government is not a victim. There are literal nazis on Ukraine government. Have you seen the symbols the Azov Brigade, which is part of the National Guard of Ukraine, uses? The plot is not inspired by Russia-Ukraine War. This is criticizing the United States, the only country to ever uses not only one, but TWO nukes. Its indirectly telling us that the USA is so greedy for power that was able to invent the Nuclear Bomb a second time to drop on its enemies. If this was a critic to Russia (or the URSS), he would have made the URSS using the nukes, not USA.

Most likely because it's a not subtle reference to the bombs being dropped on Japan in WW2 which done by B29s. Even the bomb drawn in this chapter is pretty much identical to Little Boy.
