Chapter Tracking

There's still no Chapter # tracking/editing in the site. I've been waiting since the site came back up for it to be added so I can start using MangaDex again.
Not even a client side one like the reading history "Reading history is currently only tracked on your device, and will be lost if you log out or clear site data."
This makes MangaDex still unusable for me. As other sites will frequently be 200+ chapters ahead I can't even do "Mark All As Read" because that doesn't help when I need to search for the next chapter. There's a host of other reasons. But basically I'd like to be able to read here when I can and then also know when I can't and should look elsewhere.
This was the main feature that had me start using the site in the first place years ago.
Now that I can ask directly (not a Reddit person sry ;)) I hope it comes back soon.

(To be clear, btw. I don't really care about external trackers like the rejected proposal. Although now that I know about MAL-Sync through that thread I'll see if that covers my needs)
edit: seems like that covers 90% of my use-case. It's a bit annoying (more logins, adding MangaDex entries to it) but I guess once I migrate my life to it it'll work.

I can't even do "Mark All As Read"
You can Mark a single chapter as read by clicking on the eye and this information is stocked by mangadex.

I don't understand your suggestion or what you want.

But basically I'd like to be able to read here when I can and then also know when I can't and should look elsewhere.
elsewhere = another website ?

If you're talking about the reading progress tracker, as in those latest read Vol. / Ch. fields users could set for each manga, don't expect that to come back anytime soon. We're primarily a website for reading manga, not for tracking what you've read elsewhere, and while it's still a v3 parity feature that would be nice bring back as soon as possible, the fact is that there are many higher priority tasks to get done first. It being a data sink with potential entries running quickly in the millions doesn't help its case either.

(Funny you mentioned MangaUpdates, I started using MangaDex precisely so I didn't have to manually track and Dex would do it for me)

Actually I was talking about this. Which I feel like I'm going crazy b/c this just appeared for me on only one page (maybe this is MAL-sync editing the page tho?)

"We're primarily a website for reading manga, not for tracking what you've read elsewhere"
Yeah, I want to use this site as my primary reading source but then (as an old but currently relevant example)
Oh "The Duchess' 50 Tea Recipes" got an update 17 days ago.
But the translation has been finished for years. I actually started that here and finished it elsewhere. So lucky for me it's [Completed], and I don't need to be confused and restart reading it.
(At the time tho it was "update but I'm +50 chapters ahead")
I'd like to start here, but if I check MangaUpdates or other places and find out it's not "wait" but "oh MangaDex is 200+ behind"
Then I'd rather not migrate the reading log all over the place if that makes sense.
I only do daily reading from one site.
**but regardless I'm unsure about that image. Is that local? Like logout, etc. will wipe? And what causes it to pop up? MAL-sync thing?

Seems like that adds what I need to the site then. Kinda sad to go third-party on such a basic feature. Especially after all this time. But I get that at the connection scale an extra 1MB per user in the database probably isn't desirable. And that there were (and probably still are) things the devs have been forced to pay more attention to (like security).

Yeah, we don't allow rips of official releases, if that's what this "MangaDex is x chapters behind" stuff is about. I should've been more clear: we're primarily a website for reading and publishing scanlations.

Then I'd rather not migrate the reading log all over the place if that makes sense.
Yeah, I understand the issue, there's just more important and less developmentally expensive things for us to worry about that better serve what the site is about.
