I think the author intended for this story be a bit different from Black Haze by including romance in the plot, but the similarly slow pace means that the romance aspect probably wouldn't show up for a while yet.

Yongyong's stories are really a guilty pleasure
they carry themselves with a different tone consistency than most stories and I think it throws a lot of people off. Because someone mentioned it earlier, in Black Haze it simply became less important to the story for Rood to keep his identity a secret over time. The story arcs had changed, and the stakes had changed - and most significantly,

it was to show growth in Rood and his friendships - that he had people who would accept him and be real friends with him. Remember the beginning when he was signed up to go to the school because his master wanted him to make more friends? When you get so far into the story why would you still want to put up with the same identity hiding shenanigans instead of seeing the people in his life turn out to be good friends whether he is truly the king of hell or not?
