How far into the future does this take place where Descartes is considered ancient?

Also that quote has nothing to do with questioning identity, it was an attempt at establishing objective metaphysical truths.

@MrGoose Gosh I wasn't expecting that comment haha - well I'm guessing the mangaka hadn't read any Descartes and came across the quote like most of us do through references in pop culture etc. Although the part where Descartes is considered as ancient was rather lazy...
