Thanks for the chapter!

So is the reason Artemis is screwing this up is because she just didn't understand that Greek gods are vengeful? Or that she doesn't understand the western cultural approach to communication which is more direct? Or both?

It seems as though she expected Hera to give in because for Hera to directly call her out would cause Hera to lose face?

If so, this is actually pretty interesting to see a screw up due to a disconnect in intercultural communication. This is something that is not often brought up in series where someone from the "East" is reincarnated in a "Western" setting.

I think the only west / east disconnect is the female lead's complete ignorance on these characters.* She might think "we're all gods here more or less, what's the big deal?" rather than the reality, which is that Hera has lots of reason to dislike Artemis before the FL possesses her.

Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and Leto, with Zeus having cheated on Hera. Leto is a goddess, but she's basically nobody on Mt. Olympus. Hera made sure she'd have no position in the pantheon as revenge, so she has few or no worshippers, and only is known for birthing Artemis and Apollo (twins).

So that means that Artemis thinking she can act that way to Hera in front of everyone is a severe case of not knowing her place. Artemis is already a reminder of her husband's infidelity, and now she's showing a lack of respect (not quite disrespect, but still).

Edit: *@BalrogDeMorgoth explained the west east disconnect really well here!

Yeah she probably didn't expect the pettiness of Greek gods also applied among themselves.

She tried to use Eastern Royal Court etiquette and social norm in a Greek Western setting basically so what would have been acceptable and clever ways to praise herself and avoid conflict in her own culture was interpreted as snide, underhanded and insulting by the Gods.

In an Eastern Court setting, her 'You're too magnanimous for this' would have been seen as praise and a way for Hera to acceptably praise herself as compensation for not punishing the guy, a win-win that Hera would have appreciated. But this is not a Eastern Court setting so what she said was interpreted as an insult saying 'You're such a petty bitch'.

Yup! She's actually trying to 'give hera an out' to this situation by praising her n dismissing it as a minor thing. [gonna steal this comment to add more info in my bato comment hahah!]

In greek God culture they don't care about "losing face" or appearing petty as seen in their myths, they just go to war or try and kill someone that they think is insulting them. Also, if someone is higher rank than u, you should grovel before them, as seen in how the other lower gods and humans behave, not stand your ground and be prideful just cause you can say a few clever words. Culture shock to Artemis FL lololol.

Yeah, it's the moment where you debase yourself, not cleverly 'give face' to the higher guy in exchange for being allowed to save yours. That's why she was surprised that Hera would 'make herself look bad' by having a public confrontation, when in a western / greek setting, this means nothing.
