Quick review: I've read a lot of murim manhwa, and frankly speaking this is one of the top of them. Comedy is on point, action is just enough to make you feel good about the OP MC, but never dragging out too long.
The MC is smart and reliable, since he was the leader of the murim alliance. He's a very likable character imo.

The plot moves fast and that's a good thing. The story doesn't spend time dawdling on and on about small details and mysteries, instead things are dealt with immediately if the MC is able to do so. However there's still one main problem (how did they exchange soul), so that the story still have a main goal to strive for.

TLDR: I'd give this an 8.1 for now. If you enjoy murim stories with smart MC and a fast-paced story, this is for you!

including this series (which can be read on asuratoon) these are the ones I currently follow (I do read many others but most of them turned out to be too repetitive/boring)

this one isn't a murim/cultivation, but it's a pretty fun fighting manhwa, so give it a read if you like.

ember knight, i tried a couple of chapters but couldn't get into it. someone commented that the MC stays weak the whole series & never gets stronger...that really put me off tbh

that's a shame. MC doesn't get stronger but he constantly fights his way out of things with his mind. I usually enjoy OP MCs too, but that one is seriously amazing at having a weak MC but doesn't get screwed up by others.

like, in Murim RPG, MC was also constantly weaker than the enemies he faced, and he only survived either by luck or asking the system for help. I honestly hated how weak and dumb the MC is, I only stick around because the system is interesting.
Meanwhile, in Ember Knight, while MC is indeed weak, he covers up so well that only a few knows his true strength, while others fear and respect him a lot, and he isn't completely useless in fights because he found a way to use an unstoppable weapon.

anw I do think you should give it another try, it's a very well-written series.

I've read up to chapter 139
The initial premise of the boy's body MC takes over is interesting
How he wanted to kill himself, and that caused everyone else in the family to suffer
The side-characters felt a bit annoying at first, but grew to love all of them as the story progresses..
The comedy is also fun.

My only gripe is
  • Everyone besides the MC is too incompetent. In many of the conflicts, most 'Faction LEADERS' did absolutely nothing. It was like looking at MC being 'God Goku' and most Leaders being 'Krillin' from Dragon Ball Z.
  • MC powered up way too fast. I can get behind it because he obtained some rare items to boost his core energy to level 5. In his past body as the Murim Alliance leader, Hoo Gong/ Hu Gong, he was level 12. So, is the faction leader level 4 or 3?

I guess if you turn your brain off to the power-scaling plot-armor and the world's incompetence. It's all good.

Overall, I've enjoyed reading it a lot, and MC's attitude as a somewhat forgiving old dude.
