other than the backyard i've never worn sandals too often but i'd prolly wear comfy socks on a festival like this, fashion faux pas aside, you'd think with how common a cliche thisi s ppl would wear comfortable shoes

Cute start tho

I think these are fine to wear with tabi socks in the first place.

Size aside i'd imagine it'd be all the walking but i'd prolly wear sneakers/not dress up in a yukata to begin with unless i was actually on a date versus friends, or something underneath for a quick change

Tho be hilarious/opportunistic if someone halfway through had a stall of like bandages/blister medicine and the like or so (given how common these festivals are i'd expect some med kit to be set up [unless they only do that in huge cities like tokyo] or at least some lost kid center for younger ones who get separated)

They do go all out at summer festivals, even if it's not a date.
I don't know about the cultural thing, but they're definitely dressed to impress the onlookers. Bring out the festive atmosphere.
If a girl wears yukata there, she must also wear the sandals and carry the string pouch, complete with pretty the hairpins and all.

tho, about the cliche...
In actuality, so far I've never seen anyone complain about getting blisters from sandals at a summer festival.
Granted, I don't go to big summer festivals every year, cause I don't like hot sweaty crowded places.
I really think that cliche is just a cliche that is not common anymore

I guess depending on the length of the yukata you might not even see the shoes XD; tho it reminds me of the gsnk chapter where mikorin got all dressed up too and only chiyo was wearing a yukata

I know you can get blisters from walking too long but i guess my city (and most american ones) aren't as 'walkable' as jp

also some office lady/josei romcoms where they get blisters on their heels from wearing dress shoes/heels too

That felt quite realistic. It's already a lot for the school boy to approach a girl he has never talked to, but to be suave would be far too much demanded from an average school kid. Of course there are some who would be smoother talkers due to past experiences, like if his family is running a traditional customer service business and he would have been helping there since forever, even as a child.

Sandals with socks, no problemo! Perfect for warmer weather.
