When Chihaya started breaking down I was so ready for the punch, but then Rico of all people stepped up. She took it the hardest.
Chihaya was the head-turner, the anomaly; the little variance to an otherwise stable variable untouched by chaos theory. The races were always surefire and Mio was the champion, clear and cut … except when Chihaya wouldn't ever let things be that simple by pure, sheer, unadulterated tenacity.
And everybody but Chihaya herself felt this.
Mio was touted as the absolute rule, an undefeated winner. Ayase garnered the praise for being the hard-worker, and deservingly, too. But Chihaya was what miracles were made of. For a 'nobody' like Rico, who could only tail in the shadows of admiration, Chihaya was a blinding exception to the rule.
And after all that she's done, there's no way Rico would let this walking magic curse herself and put herself down.
